European Studies First Article Prize

About this program

The Council for European Studies offers the 2027 European Studies First Article Prize to recognize the best first articles in European studies, with one award for the humanities and one for the social sciences. Each winner receives conference recognition, a registration fee waiver, and a complimentary one-year CES membership. Eligible articles must be a nominee’s first peer-reviewed European studies publication, published from January 2025 through December 31, 2026, and authored solely by the nominee or with the nominee as first author. Nominees must be CES members or full-time faculty or students at a CES member institution, and submissions are due January 15, 2027.
