First Book Proposal Prize in Critical Disaster Studies

The Society for Applied Anthropology’s Risk and Disasters Topical Interest Group solicits single‑author nonfiction book proposals in critical disaster studies that foreground antiracist and decolonial approaches and are grounded in original ethnographic field research; the winner receives $1,250, mentorship, and a preliminary book contract with Berghahn Books (Catastrophes in Context series). Eligible applicants are single authors holding a terminal degree who have not previously published a full‑length, single‑authored book; submissions should critically engage power, inequality, colonialism, race, and author positionality and may come from any disciplinary background.
