About this program

The Folklore and Science Section of the American Folklore Society invites 10-page presentation-length papers on the boundaries, intersections, and interdisciplinary exchanges between folklore and science; submissions are due July 15. Two prizes—one for senior scholars (e.g., faculty and public folklore/humanities professionals) and one for junior scholars (graduate and undergraduate students)—each carry a $400 award; winners are announced by September 1 and honored at the AFS annual meeting, with the senior winner presenting on a Folklore & Science virtual panel the following January. Applicants must submit an anonymized paper (remove personal identifiers from text and citations) plus a cover letter with contact information and a 100-word statement of relevance, compiled into a single PDF and uploaded via the AFS Prize Application Form; technical or fit questions should be directed to the listed contacts, but submissions must not be sent directly to committee coordinators.
