Biographers International Organization awards two Frances “Frank” Rollin Fellowships of $5,000 each (plus a year’s BIO membership, registration to the annual BIO Conference, and publicity) to authors working on book-length biographies that illuminate African American lives and the Black experience. Applicants worldwide who write in English may apply at any stage of a biography (a publishing contract is not required; memoirs/autobiographies are ineligible; young‑adult biographies and applicants of any background are eligible), and winners must not have the work in production at the time of the BIO conference. Applications are due February 1 and require an online entry plus a single PDF (filename including the applicant’s name) containing a project description ≤500 words, a statement of need ≤500 words, an author bio ≤500 words, and a manuscript excerpt up to 20 pages, double‑spaced in 12‑point type; there is no application fee.
