About this program
The Planetary Society’s Gene Shoemaker Near-Earth Object Grants support amateur and professional astronomers conducting observations to discover, track, and characterize near-Earth objects, strengthening planetary-defense efforts. Funded work may improve asteroid orbit predictions and scientific understanding of NEO properties relevant to impact mitigation. Applicants should be experienced amateur or professional astronomers with proposals aligned with the program’s Request for Proposals; specific project, equipment, and submission requirements are detailed in the RFP. The 2025 grant recipients have been announced.
