About this program
The Planetary Society’s Gene Shoemaker Near-Earth Object Grants support amateur and professional astronomers conducting observations to discover, track, and characterize near-Earth objects. Funded activities help improve asteroid orbit determinations, physical characterization, and planetary-defense preparedness. Applicants should be capable of undertaking NEO observation work and submitting results to the International Astronomical Union’s Minor Planet Center; the program is intended for advanced amateur and professional asteroid observers.
