About this program
The Planetary Society’s Gene Shoemaker Near-Earth Object Grants support amateur and professional astronomers conducting observations to discover, track, and characterize near-Earth objects, including equipment and project improvements that advance planetary defense. Eligible applicants are amateur or professional astronomers with the expertise and capacity to carry out NEO observation projects and submit resulting data to the scientific community. Proposals must align with the priorities and requirements detailed in the program’s Request for Proposals.
