GLC Fellowships (2026-2027)

About this program

The Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at Yale University (MacMillan Center) invites applications for 2026–2027 residential fellowships to support research on slavery, resistance, abolition, and their legacies, offering several one‑month awards ($5,500, Sep 2026–May 2027) and two four‑month awards ($25,000 plus benefits, library privileges and office space; fall and spring terms). Projects that explicitly engage slavery, resistance, abolition and their legacies and that use Yale special collections or New England research collections are especially encouraged; fellows are expected to be in residence, participate in GLC and Yale intellectual life, give one online public presentation, and acknowledge GLC/MacMillan Center support. Applicants must hold a Ph.D. prior to appointment and apply via Interfolio with a cover letter, CV, two letters of recommendation, and a 3–5 page research statement describing archives/resources and a proposed schedule; applications complete by March 5, 2026 receive highest priority.
