About this program

The Robert J. Kleberg, Jr. and Helen C. Kleberg Foundation awards grants to IRS‑registered 501(c)(3) public charities (509(a)(1) or 509(a)(2)) and public universities under section 170(c), accepting online applications only in two annual cycles (spring: Feb 1–Mar 31; fall: Aug 1–Sep 30) with decisions in early June and early December. Priority is given to organizations with prior funding relationships; the Foundation generally will not accept medical research applications from organizations without funding in the past ten years, and project support beyond three years is rarely considered. The Foundation does not fund individuals, organizations serving clients outside Kleberg and adjoining South Texas counties, operating endowments, deficit financing, religious appeals or race/religion‑limited organizations, lobbying/propaganda, fundraising events, advertising, indirect overhead, other granting/pass‑through entities; capital projects are rarely supported and typically require prior discussion and at least 50% of costs committed from other sources. Grantees must sign an award agreement to receive payment and comply with strict online reporting (final reports for single‑year grants; annual interim and final reports for multi‑year grants, including updated budgets and evaluation of effectiveness); late submissions are not accepted.
