The Society of Ethnobiology offers the annual Grants‑in‑Aid of Field Research (“The Two Steves Award”), providing one award of up to $5,000 to support individual field research that advances knowledge in any area of ethnobiology, with priority given to innovative projects. Eligible field‑oriented work includes archaeological excavations, field surveys, plant voucher collection, or outdoor semi‑structured/structured interviews (indoor‑only or unstructured interviews are not eligible); award funds may cover travel, field expenses, consultant fees, supplies, and food but not salaries or activism. Applicants may be students, professionals, or other individuals, but awardees must be members of the Society of Ethnobiology and are encouraged to present and publish their results; recipients must submit a final report within six months of project completion. Applications (cover page, ≤2‑page single‑spaced project description excluding references, 1‑page budget justification, and any permits or evidence of permit applications) are submitted via the Society website; deadline March 15, 2027.
