Graduate Student Research Grants

About this program

The Geological Society of America (GSA) Graduate Student Research Grants provide partial support for master’s and doctoral thesis research in the geological sciences, while developing students’ grant-writing and research skills. Awards support research conducted by graduate students enrolled in eligible universities in the United States, Canada, Mexico, or Central America. Applicants must be GSA members and currently enrolled in an earth science graduate program with a geologic component; U.S. citizenship or residency is not required, and students may receive no more than two grants during their academic careers. Each application requires an appraisal from the primary advisor, and 2026 applications are closed; the listed deadline was February 18, 2026.
