About this program

The Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation (HCLF) and Blood Cancer United are jointly funding the HCL2030 Initiative with $5–7 million over ~5 years to support research that defines classic HCL biology, distinguishes and addresses HCL variant, translates discoveries to clinical application and trials, and uses the HCLF patient registry to study long‑term outcomes and quality of life. Up to seven awards will be made across two mechanisms: Laboratory‑to‑Clinical Research Grants (LCRGs) — single‑PI translational projects up to $250,000/year (max $750,000 over 3 years) — and Collaborative Team Grants (CTGs) — multi‑investigator clinical trial programs up to $625,000/year (max $2.5M over up to 4 years). Applicants must propose work clearly relevant to HCL or HCLv, meet leadership structure requirements (LCRG: single PI ± co‑PI; CTG: up to four project leaders with a Program Director), and comply with budget limits including a 10% cap on indirect costs and a 40% cap on salaries. A Patient Involvement Plan (PIP) is required for grants involving clinical trials, and demonstration of additional leveraged funding from industry or other non‑profits is encouraged.
