About this program

The Children’s Literature Association (ChLA) offers Hannah Beiter Graduate Student Research Grants totaling up to $5,000 annually, with individual awards of $500–$1,500, to support original graduate research in children’s literature. Funds may cover research materials, supplies, travel to collections or libraries, research-related expenses, and time release, but not tuition or general degree completion costs. All graduate students are eligible to apply, and recipients must be ChLA members or join before receiving funds; applications are due December 15–February 1 and require a proposal, CV, cover sheet, and two reference letters, including one from a thesis or dissertation advisor. Awarded projects are expected to contribute to children’s literature criticism through publication or conference presentation, and recipients must submit a progress or completion report.
