Hartwell Foundation Individual Biomedical Research Awards

About this program

The Hartwell Foundation offers Individual Biomedical Research Awards—$100,000 direct costs per year for three years—to support innovative, early-stage applied biomedical research that has the potential to benefit children in the United States. Each year the Foundation invites its Top Ten Centers (and occasionally selected institutions at-large) to nominate candidates—invited centers may nominate three individuals (institutions at-large two)—and participating institutions must conduct an open internal competition to identify nominees who then submit formal proposals; a limited number are invited for a personal interview in Memphis, TN. Nominees must be U.S. citizens and faculty or research staff in relevant basic or applied life-science or biomedical engineering fields, and only investigators formally nominated by the chief executive of an invited institution are eligible for consideration.
