Hazel D. Cole Fellowship

The Stroum Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Washington offers the Hazel D. Cole Fellowship, a two-year in-residence award providing a stipend of $62,500 per academic year plus benefits to support a doctoral candidate (dissertation completion) or a postdoctoral scholar working in Jewish studies. One year may be used for dissertation completion (with intent to finish within the first academic year) or for postdoctoral research (Ph.D. or foreign equivalent within the past three years); the fellow must remain in residence in Seattle, teach one quarter-long twice-weekly undergraduate lecture course per year, and deliver a public lecture annually. Applicants should demonstrate a strong academic record and focused research agenda, and preference is given to proposals for courses that attract broad and diverse student audiences; thematic priorities include Jewish–Muslim relations, gender & sexuality, Jews and race, Jewish languages and cultures of the Middle East/Central Asia/Africa, digital Jewish studies, and Jewish philosophy.
