About this program

The Duke Endowment’s Health Care program awards grants to strengthen access to and quality of health services in the Carolinas, prioritizing projects in access for vulnerable populations, maternal and infant health, pediatric mental health, oral health, population health initiatives (Healthy People, Healthy Carolinas), and workforce development. Applicants begin with a short pre-application (portal opens ~6 weeks before deadlines); pre-application deadlines are May 15 and November 15, and invited applicants submit full applications by June 15 and December 15. Funding is limited to priority nonprofit organizations serving North and South Carolina—examples include nonprofit hospitals, academic health centers, area health education centers, select organizations in counties without an eligible hospital, and not-for-profit inpatient facilities—and some initiatives (e.g., AccessHealth networks, school-based oral health expansions) are by invitation only. After review of the pre-application, the Endowment will either invite a full application for the upcoming cycle or notify applicants that the project does not align with current priorities.
