Historic Religious Properties Grant Program

About this program

Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation (PHLF) offers matching grants of up to $10,000 and complementary technical assistance to support preservation and restoration of architecturally significant historic religious properties in Allegheny County that provide social services to their communities. Technical assistance may include condition assessments, maintenance and restoration planning, architectural/engineering studies, energy audits, and guidance on working with architects and contractors. Applicants must be recognized religious institutions in Allegheny County with a building at least 50 years old (priority given to National Register‑listed or eligible properties, PHLF‑surveyed sites, or locally landmarked buildings), have an active congregation, offer community social services, be able to raise matching funds, and be PHLF members. Previous grantees may reapply only after completing prior work, and PHLF may require an exterior and/or significant interior easement for applicants with cumulative grants of $20,000 or more.
