Horowitz Foundation Dissertation Grant (PhD/DrPH candidates)

About this program

The Horowitz Foundation for Social Policy (founded by Mary Curtis Horowitz and Irving Louis Horowitz) provides merit-based dissertation grants to support social-science research with a social policy application. Awards total $10,000 per recipient, paid $7,500 initially and $2,500 upon documented completion within five years (dissertation acceptance, peer‑reviewed article acceptance, or invitation to publish a book chapter); Trustees may also grant discretionary special awards for outstanding projects. Applicants must be current PhD or DrPH candidates who do not yet hold a doctorate and who have defended their proposal or had their topic approved; candidates from any country or university are eligible, but beginning in 2023 repeat applications are not permitted. Grants are made to individuals (institutional processing requires an overhead waiver), are non‑renewable, and recipients must acknowledge Foundation support and avoid conflicts with other funding.
