Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship

About this program

The Wenner‑Gren Foundation’s Hunt Postdoctoral Fellowship awards up to $40,000 for nine months of full‑time writing to help recent PhDs in anthropology and related fields complete books, monographs, articles, or innovative new scholarly genres; proposals that are comparative, interdisciplinary, or likely to transform anthropological debates are especially welcomed and independent scholars may apply. Applicants must hold a doctorate in anthropology or a related field, be within ten years of the PhD (caregiving allowances considered), have the research forming the project substantially complete at application, and the Foundation gives preference to those who are untenured or do not hold a permanent academic position; prior Hunt recipients are ineligible. The program makes up to ~20 awards annually, does not cover institutional overhead, allows prorated stipends for shorter writing periods, and has a May 1 deadline for fellowships beginning the following year (application portal opens two months prior).
