IMG Early Career Development Award (PIDS Foundation)

About this program

PIDS Foundation’s IMG Early Career Development Award provides one-year bridge funding of $25,000 to international medical graduates transitioning from fellowship to faculty in pediatric infectious diseases, supporting research expenses (supplies, technical support, small equipment, core/statistical fees, tuition/workshops, publication fees) with travel and publication costs capped at $3,000 each; salary, institutional indirect costs, and health insurance are prohibited. Applicants must hold an MD, MD/PhD, DO, or equivalent from a non-U.S. medical school and be in the final year of a pediatric ID fellowship, have completed an ID fellowship and be in the final year of a general pediatric residency, or be within the first two years of their first pediatric infectious diseases appointment; current trainees must have an accepted primary pediatric ID appointment and be PIDS members. Required materials include an online application, NIH-format biosketch (applicant and optional mentor), a 1-page career development statement, a 5-page research proposal (hypothesis, aims, methods, statistical plan), references, budget justification, and a division/chair letter, all subject to specified formatting rules; awardees must submit a final report and acknowledge the award in outputs. Funding decisions are expected around June 1, 2026, with the award announced at the PIDS Foundation Dinner during IDWeek in October 2026.
