About this program

The American Association of Orthodontists (AAO), through the Academy for Advancing Leadership (AAL), offers the 4‑day onsite Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) to prepare orthodontic educators via workshops on teaching philosophy, course and clinical instructional design, assessment, feedback, and evidence‑based, case/problem‑based learning. AAO sponsorship covers the $3,500 registration fee plus a travel stipend up to $2,250 for up to five sponsored participants. Eligible applicants are U.S. and Canadian orthodontic educators and prospective educators (including final‑year residents pursuing MS/PhD) who are AAO members and who submit an application form, CV, candidate letter, institutional letter of commitment, at least three letters of recommendation, verification of citizenship/green‑card status or intent to obtain, and a signed agreement upon award via email to education@aaortho.org by February 28; awardees must acknowledge AAO support and typically commit to follow‑up tracking and at least one year of full‑time teaching.
