About this program

J-PAL North America’s Health Care Delivery Initiative (HCDI) is soliciting randomized evaluations that aim to make U.S. health care delivery more efficient, effective, and equitable, with particular interest in proposals that examine racial equity. Funding streams include full projects (typically $150,000–$250,000, up to $400,000, award periods up to three years), pilot studies (up to $50,000), travel/project development grants (up to $5,000), and add-on funding (up to $400,000 minus prior J-PAL awards); Research Management Support (RMS) is also available and generally provided free of charge. Eligible proposals are RCTs or pilots that clearly link to future randomized evaluations conducted in the United States; applicants must be J-PAL affiliates, J-PAL postdoctoral fellows, or invited researchers, while graduate students may apply only with an affiliate or invited researcher on their thesis committee and face additional funding limits. The next RFP is issued Oct 7, 2026, with proposals due Jan 12, 2027 and awards announced the week of Mar 29, 2027; off-cycle submissions are permitted only with strong justification.
