Joan Cahalin Robinson Prize

About this program

The Society for the History of Technology (SHOT) awards the Joan Cahalin Robinson Prize annually for the best-presented paper by a first-time presenter at its annual meeting, recognizing strong historical research and effective presentation with a monetary award and certificate. Eligible applicants must be graduate students or have received their Ph.D. within the past two years; postdoctoral scholars, visiting assistant professors, independent scholars, and museum or other history professionals may apply, while tenure-track and tenured faculty are ineligible. Applicants must indicate their interest in the paper and conference proposals, submit the Robinson Prize application form, and provide an original, primary-source-based paper to the panel chair and SHOT Secretary at least one month before the meeting; consideration is capped at 30 candidates on a first-come, first-served basis.
