John Lake Poster Award

About this program

Sponsored by the Fisheries Research and Development Corporation and administered by the Australian Society for Fish Biology (ASFB), the John Lake Poster Award (established 1987) offers two student poster prizes of A$600 each to recognise high‑quality research presented at the ASFB annual conference.

Eligible applicants are students presenting posters on fish or fisheries (not necessarily limited to Australian work); projects must be at least half completed. Junior entries cover work from BSc/Honours/MSc level presented during or within one year of degree completion (other diplomas considered at judges’ discretion), while Senior entries cover MSc/PhD projects presented during or within one year of completion and generally completed within seven years of the first degree.

No separate application is required—applicants opt in during conference registration—and a judging panel selects winners based on originality, research quality and presentation; the entry deadline aligns with the conference abstract submission deadline.
