Joseph A. Cushman Award for Student Research

About this program

The Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research offers the Joseph A. Cushman Award for Student Research to support Master’s and doctoral projects on the systematics, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, and ecology of fossil or living foraminifera; awards are up to $3,000 and geochemistry is fundable only when directly related to foraminiferal biology. Applicants must be current graduate students and members of the Cushman Foundation at the time of application. Required materials are an application form, a 1–3 page research summary explaining significance, a detailed budget with justification, a curriculum vitae, and a faculty advisor’s letter of support; proposals are due by March 1 via email to cushmanfoundation@gmail.com. Decisions are made by the Board of Directors by late April, proposals are judged on scientific merit and financial need, and awardees must submit a progress report within two years and acknowledge the grant in resulting publications.
