Joseph A. Cushman Award for Student Travel

About this program

The Cushman Foundation for Foraminiferal Research funds the Joseph A. Cushman Award for Student Travel to reimburse travel-related expenses for current undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students (and those within one year of the Ph.D.) who present thesis/dissertation results at Foundation‑approved meetings or attend foraminifera‑oriented workshops/short courses. Coverage may include airfare/ground travel, shared modest hotel lodging (up to five nights), registration and abstract fees, with presentation awards up to $2,000 and workshop awards up to $500. Applicants must be Cushman Foundation members, may receive only one travel award per calendar year, and proposed research must address microfossils or their producers (geochemistry-only studies using microfossils solely as indicators are generally ineligible unless justified). Apply by emailing a single PDF to cushmanfoundation@gmail.com containing the statement/abstract (≤2 pages for presentations, ≤1 for workshops), itemized budget and other funding, one-page CV, and signed faculty advisor letter; materials are due by August 15 for fall/winter meetings and February 15 for spring/summer meetings, and awardees are notified after abstract acceptance.
