About this program
The Society for American Music, through an endowment established by Kate Van Winkle Keller’s family and friends and administered by the American Antiquarian Society, funds a one- to two-month research residency at the AAS to support scholarly research and writing on American music or dance that uses AAS collections. Awardees who are not current SAM members receive a one-year Society for American Music membership; application requirements and submission instructions are posted on the AAS website. Eligible applicants include scholars at all levels—graduate students, senior and independent scholars—and projects must align with the AAS collections; applications are typically due January 15 with awards announced in April.
