Kornfeld Scholars Program

About this program

The National Palliative Care Research Center’s Kornfeld Scholars Program provides junior faculty with two years of career development support to conduct pilot research and establish independent careers in palliative care. Awards provide $90,000 annually in direct costs, plus 10% allowable indirect costs, for research focused on pain and symptom management, communication, or palliative care delivery models; priority areas include dementia, younger populations, and disparities in care, while advance care planning research is excluded. Applicants must hold a doctoral degree, be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a U.S.-based faculty appointment, be within five years of fellowship completion, commit at least 60% effort to research, and have an experienced palliative care mentor; a letter of intent is required before invited full proposals.
