Legal History Article of the Year Prize (William Nelson Cromwell Foundation)

About this program

The William Nelson Cromwell Foundation funds publication and research in American legal history—especially the colonial period—and supports archival preservation, original research, and biographies through grants, fellowships, and prizes. Since 2022 the Foundation awards a $10,000 Legal History Article of the Year prize, intended to recognize outstanding scholarship and teaching in legal history; it also awards Early Scholar prizes and fellowships for early-career researchers. Eligible applicants are scholars conducting work in American legal history (including archival projects and biographical or doctrinal studies); the prize is open to researchers at any level of seniority.
