Leonard Norman Primiano Graduate Student Travel Award

About this program

The Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section of the American Folklore Society awards the Leonard Norman Primiano Graduate Student Travel Award—$500–$1,500 stipends—to support a graduate student presenting on vernacular Catholicism at the AFS annual meeting; funds are disbursed after the meeting to confirm participation and up to two awards may be made each year. Applicants may be domestic or international MA/MS or PhD students but must be AFS members and members of the Folk Belief and Religious Folklife Section (section dues $10), and the award is contingent on acceptance of the proposal for the AFS meeting; recipients may receive the award only once. Submit long and short abstracts (as filed for AFS evaluation), a brief CV or biography, a statement of purpose describing the presentation’s relevance and expected impact, a faculty support letter, and a travel budget/amount requested as Word or PDF via the AFS prize application form by June 15.
