Long-term Public Humanities Fellowships

The Folger Institute offers Long‑term Public Humanities Fellowships to support full‑time research and public‑facing projects related to the early modern world (ca. 1400–1800) and its legacies, awarding $70,000 for a standard nine‑month term (about $7,777/month). Fellows must draw on the Folger’s collections and programming and propose and implement at least one public‑engagement activity (onsite or virtual) developed in collaboration with Folger staff; up to three months of the fellowship may be taken remotely. Eligible applicants include college and university faculty, independent scholars, artists, public scholars, writers, PhD candidates, postdocs, community leaders, cultural workers, educators, and other knowledge holders—no terminal degree is required but the CV should document equivalent training or experience. Applications are submitted via the Folger online portal and require a 250‑word abstract, a 1,500‑word project description (including a public‑engagement and virtual work plan if applicable), a two‑page CV, a one‑ to two‑page list of primary Folger sources, and one letter of recommendation (optional but recommended).
