Loy McCandless Marks Scholarship (International Scholarship in Tropical Horticulture or Landscape Architecture)

About this program

Offered jointly by the National Tropical Botanical Garden (NTBG) and the Garden Club of America (GCA), the Loy McCandless Marks Scholarship provides $5,000 to support international study at botanical institutions in tropical horticulture, botany, or landscape architecture, with travel required to begin within 12 months of the award. Eligible applicants are U.S. citizens or permanent residents who are currently and actively enrolled undergraduate or graduate students at U.S.-based institutions specializing in those fields; GCA IRS rules prevent funding international applicants. Submit a single PDF to scholarships@ntbg.org by January 15 containing a one-page research description explaining how the scholarship will be used, proposed itinerary and collaborating institutions, a one-page budget, a one-page CV with contact information and enrollment history, college/university transcripts, and two signed letters of recommendation (attached or sent directly by recommenders). Only one GCA scholarship/fellowship/award application may be submitted per applicant each year; selections are reviewed by an NTBG panel and approved by the GCA Scholarship Committee.
