Lydia Cabrera Award (Cabrera Awards) — Support for study of Cuba, 1492–1868

About this program

The Lydia Cabrera Award, funded by a bequest to the Conference on Latin American History (CLAH), supports research and publication on Cuban history from 1492 to 1868. It funds original archival research in Spanish, Mexican, and U.S. archives; republication of meritorious out-of-print books; and the publication of historical statistics, documentary collections, and guides to Spanish archives. Applicants must be trained in Latin American history and proficient in Spanish; those seeking original research support must be graduate students at a U.S. institution or affiliated with U.S. college/university faculty or an accredited historical association, and awardees are expected to disseminate their findings via scholarly publications, conference papers, or public lectures.
