MDA Research Grants (Grants Review Process)

About this program

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) awards roughly 250 research grants annually to advance treatments for more than 40 neuromuscular diseases, supporting projects from fundamental muscle biology through translational and clinical studies and relying on rigorous expert peer review. Applications are typically comprehensive (30–50 pages), translational/MVP projects often receive expedited monthly review, and ranked recommendations above the budgetary cut-off go to MDA’s Board for funding. Eligible applicants include biomedical researchers and physician-scientists at all career stages, including trainees, with projects addressing neuromuscular disease (basic, translational, or clinical). Proposals are judged on scientific quality and therapeutic potential; historically about 15% of submissions are funded, and unsuccessful applicants receive detailed reviews to guide resubmission.
