Medieval Archaeology Research Grant (Society for Medieval Archaeology)

About this program

The Society for Medieval Archaeology funds the Medieval Archaeology Research Grant to support individual members’ personal research on the c. 5th–16th century AD period. Awards are typically £1,000–£1,500 (doctoral awards usually do not exceed £750) with up to £3,000 in exceptional cases; applications are invited by the end of January for decisions in March–April. Applicants must be individual SMA members; graduate students may apply but core doctoral costs foreseeable at project start are normally ineligible. Use the SMA-grant-application-form and email applications to the Grants & Awards Officer, Prof Gordon Noble (g.noble@abdn.ac.uk); the scheme does not fund capital equipment, software, academic fees, applicants’ salaries, or conference hosting, though fees for consultants/specialists may be claimed.
