About this program
The Mind & Life Institute’s Francisco J. Varela Research Grants provide up to $25,000 for rigorous, interdisciplinary research on contemplative practices and their potential to reduce suffering and promote human flourishing. Proposals may span fields including neuroscience, psychology, education, health, social science, and the humanities, with preference for studies incorporating first-person contemplative methods and collaboration with contemplative scholars or practitioners. Applicants must be graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, or junior faculty and must have attended a Mind & Life Summer Research Institute in 2021 or later. Applicants may submit to only one type of Varela grant per year.
