About this program
Funded by the Mellon Foundation and administered through Citizens & Scholars, the MMUF Travel & Research Grant provides up to $5,000 for one summer or semester of pre-dissertation research, including travel, archive access, databases, and research materials. Applications open December 14, 2026, and close February 26, 2027, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Applicants must be alumni of the Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program, Ph.D. candidates in an eligible humanities, social science, or designated physical science field, and must have completed coursework and comprehensive examinations and received dissertation-topic approval. Funds cannot support hardware or software, conference travel, tuition, general living expenses, or other non-research costs.
