MSA Climate Change Research Award

About this program

The Mycological Society of America’s MSA Climate Change Research Award provides $10,000 to support creative fundamental and translational research in which fungi and their functions are central to projects that could yield practical, viable solutions to mitigate human-caused climate change. Eligible applicants are undergraduates, graduate students, and post-doctoral scientists at U.S. institutions who are current MSA members or have applied for membership at the time of application; leads must reside in the U.S. if research involves foreign partners. Applications require a CV (≤3 pages), a detailed proposal (≤5 pages total, including a 200–250 word abstract, objectives, methods, significance, budget and justification, timeline, dissemination plan, and references), and a letter of support from the major professor/mentor submitted directly by the recommender via the MSA submission portal. Indirect costs are not allowed; funds are disbursed after the MSA conference pending W-9/W-8 completion, awardees must provide a short bio and photo, make results freely available, and contribute a public-facing article within two years while acknowledging MSA.
