National Mentoring Community Emergency and Experience Grants (EMERGE) Fund

About this program

Kenton and Amy Brown fund the APS National Mentoring Community EMERGE Fund to provide emergency grants (up to a cumulative $5,000, with higher amounts considered case-by-case) and experience grants (up to a cumulative $4,000) to help NMC mentees continue physics studies or cover costs of professional development. Applications are accepted at any time via the APS mentoring site (myAPS.org); mentees should first contact their NMC mentor and may include supporting documentation (bills, emails) for review. Applicants must be active NMC mentees at the time of application, and a review committee of APS Committee on Minorities in Physics members and APS staff typically decides within 7–10 business days. Approved recipients must complete payment paperwork, submit receipts, and provide a brief statement after funding.
