New Century Scholars Doctoral Scholarship

About this program

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (ASHFoundation) offers the New Century Scholars Doctoral Scholarship to support research doctoral students in communication sciences and disorders who are pursuing teacher–investigator careers in U.S. higher education; for 2026 it will award up to 15 scholarships of $10,000 each plus one additional AAC-focused and one severe-disabilities–focused named award. Awards are intended for educational expenses (tuition, books, living costs) and recipients are announced and recognized in November. Eligible applicants must be accepted to or currently enrolled in a research doctoral (PhD or equivalent) program in communication sciences and disorders (clinical doctoral students and those completing before May 2026 are ineligible), must be an NSSLHA or ASHA member, and should demonstrate commitment to a U.S. teacher–investigator academic career; full-time students are prioritized. The application requires an online Student Information Form, a 3-page letter of application with a modified CV appendix, a signed Department Information Form, current transcripts, and two confidential letters of recommendation (one from the department).
