About this program

NIHCM Foundation offers Health Care Journalism Grants to fund reporting and education projects that inform policymakers, health plans, providers, and the public to improve the affordability, accessibility, and quality of U.S. health care. The 2025–2026 cycle solicited proposals on affordability, pharmaceuticals (with special interest in GLP‑1 agonists), provider consolidation and market changes, health care delivery models, chronic disease management, and artificial intelligence (including EHR-related coding intensity), and also considered projects addressing rising health care costs more broadly. Journalists from national and local print, digital, broadcast, nonprofit and for‑profit news organizations, as well as freelancers, are eligible; the 2025–26 cycle is closed and the 2026–27 cycle opens late summer 2026 (questions: cellis@nihcm.org).
