About this program

The American Council of Learned Societies, supported by the Templeton Religion Trust, is funding nine-week summer 2026 ACLS Graduate Internships on the Spiritual Infrastructure of the Future to place current PhD students whose dissertation or research relates to the study of religion in host organizations across the U.S.; stipends are $15,400 for in-person placements and $14,000 for remote placements, with up to $2,000 available for relocation. Applicants must be enrolled PhD students in the humanities or related social sciences at the time of application, not planning to graduate before May 2027, able to be released from coursework/assistantships/teaching for the nine-week term, and most internships require in-person work in the host city. Applicants may apply to up to two internships; each submission requires a tailored one-page cover letter and résumé (no reference letters), submitted through the ACLS Online Fellowship Application system, with a deadline of January 14, 2026 (9:00 PM EST); selection includes peer review, host interviews, and final ACLS offers.
