NTSAD Research Initiative Program

About this program

NTSAD’s Research Initiative Program funds research advancing treatments and cures for Tay-Sachs, Canavan, GM1 gangliosidosis, and Sandhoff diseases, with priority areas including clinical trial readiness, biomarker and patient-centered outcome development, gene editing, cell therapy, and improved therapeutic delivery systems. Typical awards range from $2,000–$75,000 for one year or $20,000–$140,000 for two years, with indirect costs capped at 5% of the total award. Requests for proposals are invitation-only and open year-round; interested investigators should contact NTSAD’s research team to discuss their projects. Applications are evaluated for mission alignment, scientific merit, and feasibility, with final approval by NTSAD leadership and its board Executive Committee.
