Outstanding Dissertation Award

About this program

The Immigration and Ethnic History Society (IEHS) offers a $1,500 Outstanding Dissertation Award annually to recognize an exceptional dissertation in U.S. and/or North American immigration and ethnic history. The award is presented at the IEHS banquet during the Organization of American Historians meeting, with limited assistance potentially available for awardees who cannot afford to attend. Eligible dissertations must be written in English, focus on North American immigration and/or ethnicity, and be filed between October 1, 2025, and September 30, 2026. Applicants must submit the dissertation and arrange for their major advisor to provide a supporting letter by December 1, 2026.
