Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards

National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) presents the Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards to recognize up to 30 exceptional undergraduate and graduate geoscience teaching assistants annually; awardees receive a one‑year NAGT membership with online access to the Journal of Geoscience Education and In The Trenches. Undergraduate awards are funded by a gift from Thomas Hendrix and graduate awards by NAGT. Eligible nominees are undergraduate or graduate TAs (including equivalent instructional titles); nominations must be submitted by an instructor familiar with the TA’s teaching (e.g., department chair, TA coordinator, or instructor of record), must be received within 12 months for recent graduates, and include nominee/contact/course information plus a description of the nominee’s teaching activities. Candidates are evaluated holistically on experience and use of evidence‑based pedagogy, initiative, inclusivity, rapport with students, administrative skills, and promotion of a positive teaching culture; nominations may be submitted via the online form or by mail and are due December 15 or June 15.
