Pew-Stewart Scholars for Cancer Research (2027)

About this program

The Pew-Stewart Scholars for Cancer Research, funded by The Pew Charitable Trusts in partnership with the Alexander and Margaret Stewart Trust, provides $300,000 in flexible support ($75,000/year for four years) to outstanding early-career investigators conducting innovative basic, translational, or applied cancer research that could accelerate progress toward a cure. Applicants must hold a doctorate in biomedical or related fields, have a full‑time assistant professor appointment running an independent laboratory as of Aug. 27, 2026, and must not have been appointed as an assistant professor prior to June 10, 2023 (appointments such as research assistant professor, adjunct, visiting, or instructor are ineligible; clinical training and parental leave do not count toward the three‑year limit). One nomination will be invited from each participating institution (95 centers listed), candidates may be nominated at most twice, the program does not fund clinical trials, and awardees are expected to devote the majority of their effort to their research and participate in annual program meetings.
