Philippa Hetherington Prize - Best postgraduate thesis in General History (non-Australian history)

Administered by the Australian Historical Association, the Philippa Hetherington Prize is a biennial A$2,500 award (from 2025) for the best postgraduate thesis in General History (non-Australian focus) to assist transformation of the thesis into one or more publications. Prize funds must be spent within two years, a report submitted, and final publications must acknowledge the AHA and the Prize; the award is presented at the AHA annual conference. Eligible theses must have been passed in the year prior to the Prize with the majority unpublished; applicants must be AHA members and Australian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a current Australian visa, while current AHA Executive Committee and AHA Public Fund Committee members are ineligible. Expressions of interest are due 11 November in the year before the Prize and full applications (application form, examiners’ reports and a budget) by 31 January in the Prize year; a three-judge panel appointed by the AHA makes the final decision.
