Philippa Hetherington Prize - Best postgraduate thesis in General History (non-Australian history)

About this program

The Australian Historical Association (AHA) awards the Philippa Hetherington Prize, a biennial $2,500 prize (from 2025) presented at the AHA annual conference to help convert the best postgraduate thesis in General History (non‑Australian history) into one or more publications. Prize funds must be spent within two years and a report is required; final publications must acknowledge the AHA and the Prize. Eligible nominations are for theses passed in the year prior to the Prize with the majority unpublished, and applicants must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or hold a current valid Australian visa and be AHA members at the time of application; current members of the AHA Executive Committee and AHA Public Fund Committee are ineligible. Expressions of interest are submitted by email (due 11 November in the year before the Prize) and full applications—including an application form, examiners’ reports and a budget—are due by 31 January in the year of the Prize.
