About this program
The Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation (PMSF) provides competitive research grants to accelerate clinical and translational studies that improve quality of life and advance treatments for Phelan-McDermid syndrome. Award mechanisms include the annual $100,000 Shannon O’Boyle Memorial Grant for neuropsychiatric illness, Innovation Awards for novel or understudied areas, Translational Research Awards to move promising lab findings toward therapeutics or assessments, and fellowships focused on neuropsychiatric/regression characterization. Applicants may be basic, translational, or clinical investigators worldwide; fellowship candidates should have a clinical background in psychiatry or neurology and will work within the NIH‑funded Developmental Synaptopathies Consortium, and proposals with clinical relevance are preferred. Selections are highly competitive and conducted through rigorous scientific and family/community review.
