About this program

The D. Kim Foundation for the History of Science and Technology in East Asia awards two or three annual post‑doctoral fellowships to distinguished early‑career scholars researching the history of science and technology in modern East Asia, including comparative and related fields such as mathematics, medicine, and public health. Applicants of any nationality must have received a doctoral degree within the previous five years and submit a writing sample (published paper, book chapter, or dissertation chapter) plus an invitation letter from a host institution that specifies the institution’s minimum salary and other required expenses; the host cannot be changed without Foundation permission. Fellowship amounts are set according to the region and the host institution’s minimum requirements, the usual term is September 1–August 31 (adjustable with permission), all materials must be in English, and recipients must notify the Foundation if they receive other funding (which may lead to award adjustment).
